Night Moves at Nite Moves in Santa Barbara (8/22/01)

With the Bob Seger song playing softly in our heads despite the salsa music, well actually it was the Bare Naked Ladies (but as I always say, that's another story and another type of webpage), pouring from Bill's Volvo speakers, we played hookey this past Wednesday afternoon and made our way to Santa Barbara to partake of the infamous Nite Moves extravaganza. It's a 1000m oceanswim, followed by a 5K run every Wednesday evening. You get a T-shirt, a bag of goodies, beer, food, a free concert, and energy and encouragement from the organizer Jane Cairns (who earlier this summer organized the fabulous Santa Barbara 6 mile swim including providing the helpful current according to Bill). You can find more out about the last two Wednesday night Nite Moves events this summer by going to the Nite Moves webpage. I encourage you to skip out on work and make your way North at least one time before the summer fades away.

Our SCAQ contingent consisted of Bill and Dave Nelson, and five beautiful women: Cheryl, Kathy Mann, Nicole Z-B, Shannon Sullivan, and moi (OK, so there were 4!). Shannon hit the lanes for a workout. Cheryl cheered from the beach and then blasted the run. Kathy and Dave excelled at both the water and land events, though I must point out that Dave wore that wetsuit as usual. He finished in second with Bill close behind in the oceanswim. Bill then patiently waited on the beach until I floated in and accompanied me for a tour around the buoys while the run took place.

We then retired to a friendly Brewhouse for an excellent repast. Beer, wine, and of course my chosen root beer, flowed freely and the stories abounded. Bets were placed on the outcomes of this season's final oceanswims. Pictures were shared. A good time was had by all and then we made our merry way homeward.
