Did Alex Kostich Swim Faster Than Sally Morton at Catalina?

Last September a research question was posed: Will Alex Kostich swim faster than Sally Morton at Catalina? Data was gathered, analysis was conducted, mistakes were corrected, graphs were drawn, and a prediction was made (see the challenge and the graph from last year). Well, the race was swum, and the answer obtained. And what do you think happened! Amazingly, in a stunning upset as Bill Ireland is fond of saying, Alex did swim just slightly faster than Sally (see the updated graph). However, I would patiently point out that the 2001 Oceanswim season is upon us, and Sally has been training hard, and Alex, well I am sure he's running scared – we shall see, we shall see what the summer brings, won't we?
